THE BLUE HOUR

20th February, 2011

Whether it's to Mephistopheles or to The Man, we've all made deals we rather regret. Ambition is free, but integrity can be sold to the highest bidder. We all have our price what's yours? Coffee+Sponge stage FAUSTUS in its life drawing glory.
ALL IN A DAY'S WORK
3 – 5 PM, Sunday 13th February 2011

To quote Philip Roth, “The road to hell is paved with works-in-progress.” Amen, brother, amen. So with that in mind, Coffee+Sponge attempt the ambitious by inviting artists to complete in one sitting our two hour tableau. And because we never make things easy for ourselves, the pose will be upside-down.

THE DOUBLE
My job, my friends, my face – everything that makes me, is all being stolen away. Someone is making me a stranger to my own life. Thing is, the one stealing my life is myself.

Inspired by Dostoyevsky's novella THE DOUBLE, Coffee+Sponge's 5th SHARPEN MY PENCIL of 2011 asks what happens when we allow the unsavoury, unflattering and deviant aspects of ourselves run riot.

23rd January, 2011 3-5pm

As they say, the devil is in the details.  So why do we avoid certain challenges when drawing the body?  For Coffee+Sponge's third SHARPEN MY PENCIL of 2011, we go in for the close-up on hands, feet and toes, knees, napes and knuckles.

Inspired by the dance works of Marie Chouinard and Erwin Wurm's one-minute sculptures, Coffee+Sponge and guest artist Kyla Harris present ALTERATIONS & REPAIRS as an exploration into what happens when we are forced to he relinquish our normal body functions and explore alternative vocabularies of movement.

Yes he's my husband. Yes a bullet was put straight through his heart. Yes I was holding the gun. But that doesn't mean I killed him.
